Station S38
|
Upon arrival on Station S38 at 2:24 GMT on June 14, 2000, we promptly deployed the 24 bottle rosette to collect water samples at various intervals in the water column at this 2650 meter deep station. The attached photo (A) features Sophie De Beukelaer filtering bottom, surface, Chlorophyll maximum, and mid water samples. After three failed boxcore attempts, we relocated the station five nautical miles West of the Florida Escarpment. The trawl catch consisted mainly of sea cucumbers and starfish and included interesting trash such as a porthole and half of a plate. The attached picture (B) portrays Archie Ammons rinsing the plankton net that was attached to the trawl net. |
