Dr. Guy J. Denoux

November 30, 1949 -- December 7, 2007

Guy J. Denoux passed away Friday, December 7, 2007, ending a bravely-fought battle against chronic myelomonocytic leukemia.

Born and raised in Metairie, La., he was most proud of being an Eagle Scout and the lessons in Cajun cooking from of his Mamere. He earned his bachelor's degree in biology at the University of New Orleans and his master's degree in zoology and physiology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Guy came to Texas A&M University in 1976 to pursue his doctorate in oceanography.

Making College Station his home, he and Jane Morgan (class of 76) were married in December 1980. He completed his degree in 1984 and was employed with the Deptartment of Oceanography and the Geochemical Environmental Research Group (GERG). He recently received a pin for 30 years of service to Texas A&M University.

Much of his work included travel and time spent at sea. He was most fond of his trips to Antarctica. In 2005, he received the Congressional Service Medal for his contribution as an Antarctic researcher.

He was active in his children's lives. A teacher at heart, he shared his experiences with science classes at Rock Prairie Elementary School and Cypress Grove Middle School. He coached softball for City of College Station's Parks and Recreation Department and Bryan North Little League, and also served on the boards of College Station Little League and Aggieland Soccer Club.

Two things that gave him the most joy were keeping the scorebook for his daughter's traveling softball teams and sharing his love and knowledge of soccer with goalkeeper training sessions and his son's soccer teams. He was a generous contributor to local charities, and a participant in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life with GERG. Above all, Guy was a loyal friend and a loving father and husband.

He was preceded in death by mother, Mary O'Donnell Denoux; and namesake and great-uncle, Father Guy J. Lemieux, S.J.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; children, Elise Marie and Henry Elhanon; father, Henry A. Denoux; and sister, Clarice Denoux.

Donations can be made in memory of Guy J. Denoux to College Station Independent School District Education Foundation, 1812 Welsh, College Station, Texas 77840, and the Lymphoma Leukemia Society.
